Bug Description

Binary package hint: debian-installer

Encrypted partitions can be created, but can't be removed.

To reproduce:
1) Use Ubuntu 10.10 (Beta) AMD64 Server CD
1.5) My storage devices: /dev/sda 40GB HDD; /dev/sdb 64MB USB stick.
2) Boot CD and get to partitioning screen.
3) Use option for Guided partitioning*, using entire disk (/dev/sda), with LVM and Encryption.
4) At the final prompt for writing the information to disk, select "No" to fall back to manual partioning.
5) At this point, you'll have /dev/sda partitioned w/ an encrypted partition on it; the encrypted partition will contain LVM volumes on it.
6) Try to remove the /dev/sda1 (encrypted) partition. You'll get a warning that it's in use; but that's expected since a lot depends on it.
7) Remove the LVM logical volumes, and remove the volume group etc to remove all dependencies on the encrypted volume.
8) Go into "configure encrypted volumes" hoping to remove yours... No luck. The only options are "Create" and "Finish". There is no "Remove"
9) Pressing "Enter" on the encrypted volume flashes the screen, but gives no dialog box for manipulation.
10) Reboot to start over with manual partitioning; there is no recovery.

* Purely Manual partitioning also reproduces this bug.

Expected behavior: encrypted partitions should be removable within the installer.

Why did it happen to me? I needed to manually partition to put /boot on a USB stick. I wanted to let guided partitioning make the size choices and use it as an example. However, I found I couldn't undo the encrypted partition. It happened again when I wanted to back-track in completely manual partitioning as well.

If any of this needs clarification, I can walk through the install again and rewrite. Unfortunately, I'm writing this from memory.
