Bug Description

Binary package hint: debian-installer

maverick alternate 64bit alpha-2 and maverick server 64bit alpha-2 installs on intel motherboard with 2 SATA drives iwith /boot on a 2 GB flash drive

during install at partition stage cannot set bootable flag to 'on' on the flash drive partition but after install found that boot flag was set even though it showed in partitioner as not set. Second time through using server 64-bit flash drive showed in the partitioner list as B (boot flag on) but when changing partition details the previous behavior re-occurred when trying to toggle the boot flag.

steps to reproduce:
at partition stage:
1.select manual partition
2.Select partition 1 of flash drive and press enter
3. Select use as: ext3
4. Select mount point: /boot
5. Select 'bootable flag' and press enter

Expected behavior: 'bootable flag' display changes to 'on'
Actual behavior: 'bootable flag' display stays at 'off'

continued install normally. After install attempted to set flash drive boot flag using parted on another ubuntu system (10.04) and found that the boot flag on the flash drive partition 1 was already set. Tried booting into the new system adn it worked fine booting off the flash drive.

as I had installed alternate 64 bit cd by mistake tried over installing using maverick server 64 bit alpha-2 cd and found same behavior from that cd
after 2nd install:
# lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu maverick (development branch)
Release: 10.10

I'm trying to install Ubuntu 10.10 i386 Server using manual partitioning. When I create a single ext4 file system covering the entire disk, the "bootable flag" of the new file system is shown as "off". When I select it and press enter, the text "Please wait... Computing the new state of the partition table..." briefly flashes on the screen, but the state of the bootable flag remains "off".

I have not verified whether or not the flag actually changes on disk, but I am unable to make the user interface display it as "on".
