Bug Description
Ubuntu server failed to boot after installation on a brand new drive.
Installing ubuntu server 10.4 lucid yesterday
Using the unbuntu server install iso image (downloaded 4/May/2010).
Went throught the installation and selected the option to use the whole disk and let ubuntu sort the partitions out. This was on a 2tb disk (if that is relevant). Folowed the installation wizard and when it got to the grub installation dialog it said it had not detected any other operating systems, and I selected Yes to install grub. It installed on sda (there was only the single disk on the machine) The install finished successfully. After it rebooted, I got an Operating system not found message.
I repeated the install again two times, and the same problem occured.
I then booted off the install cd and selected the boot from first disk option. This booted the installed os correctly.
Eventually I thought of checking the partitions in fdisk and the root partiotn was not marked as "active". I set the partition to active in fdisk, saved the settings and rebooted and this fixed the problem.
It seems that the setup has not checked if the boot partition was active or not and had not set it to be active.

may be related to bug485604 since it seems to be to do with GPT based on the 2tb disk size
