Bug Description

Binary package hint: debian-installer

An example, Ubiquity in Spanish have many mistakes and old words, many people is confused by this bug. Latinoamerican people did'nt know what is a "fichero".

And, some strings are not unified, like the example from the image where some strings start with capital letters, and others with lower-case.

Off course I know about this policy:

But, we must to do something, old bugs (now marked as Won't fix) are talking about the same, old translations.

Julián, why are you assigning the bug to me? I have nothing to do with Debian.

Assigning to Spanish translators to have a look at, although I'm not sure if the bug is still relevant. Please update to "Fix Released" or "Invalid" as you judge best.

Many of the Ubiquity translations comes from debian-installer translations, which in turn comes from Debian, i.e. the Debian translations takes preference over the Ubuntu translations in the debian-installer templates. For example, the filesystem names comes from Debian, and we (the Ubuntu translators) can't do anything about that, except wait for the Debian translators to fix the translation issues.

The Debian-installer translation is fairly complete. I'm not sure
why this bug is forwarded to the Debian translation team.

If there are any issues in the translation of the Debian installer to
Spanish I would suggest either submitting a clear bug report with specific
details to the Debian Bug Tracking System or, if unsure, discuss the "issues"
in the Debian Spanish translation team mailing list (debian-l10n-spanish AT
debian.org).

As for the specific complaints in this bug report:

 - the use of 'fichero' as a translation for 'file' (as in 'sistema
de ficheros' for 'filesystem') is a perfectly valid translation
in neutral Spanish. If users want to have a localised translation
variations for es_AR, es_MX or any other 'es' variant can be generated
    based on the existing translation

 - the inconsistent use of capitalisation can be, indeead, considered
a bug. I have updated the Debian translation of the installer in SVN.
