Bug Description

Hello,

if one converts the iso image of Ubuntu Server LTS 12.04.1 to the USB version with the help of hdiutil, as documented here:

http://www.ubuntu.com/download/help/create-a-usb-stick-on-mac-osx

the installer is not able to mount the installation media. It searches for the DVD drive, but then errors out, with a "not found" message.

I switched to a different console, and was able to mount /dev/sda1 as iso9660 filesystem. I've also found some errors, visible in the attached screenshot.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.

KR,

Grimeton

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1071881/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.

Ever tried to search for "installer" in the "choose package" section?

Sorry, ubiquity is the Desktop installer, I shouldn't have assigned this bug to that package, as this is about server install.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and trying to help make Ubuntu better. However, it seems that you are not using a software package provided by the official Ubuntu repositories. Because of this the Ubuntu project can not support or fix your particular bug. Please report this bug to the provider of the software package. Thanks!

If you are interested in learning more about software repositories and Ubuntu the following pages should be informative:

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to a question in the support tracker. We understand the difficulties you are facing, but it is better to raise problems you are having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are uncertain if they are bugs. You can also find help posting your problem in the support forum of your local Ubuntu's community http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at http://askubuntu.com. This bug did not receive much attention so far, probably because it was not assigned to a package where it would hopefully be looked by someone with some expertise in the area.
Converting it to a question does not seem quite right, and I don't really have the knowledge to know whether it is a bug or not. The original reporter obviously thinks it is a bug, as the status was set back to "New".
I will convert it back to a bug, so that it can be assigned to a package where someone may be better able to help.

As it is a server image, the Bug Squad advice is that debian-installer package may be more appropriate than ubiquity (which is for graphical desktop installs).
If I am wrong, hopefully someone that looks at bugs in debian-installer may have a beter idea where to assign it.
