Bug Description
This happened after a fresh install of Mythbuntu v.25 onto a clean harddrive. The Ubuntu 12.04 Update Manager advised of many programs requiring update, nearly 100. Four of these were updates to Samba packages.
Functionality of original Samba install was not assessed since the Update Manager indicated an update was needed immediately after first boot. Upgrade was allowed to proceed for all. Download of all packages succeeded and installation progresses until samba-common packages. At this point, installation appears to hang, for hours. This warning of a problem appears after system reboot.
After another fresh install, the four samba packages were excluded from list and Update Manager completed without problems. After another reboot, UM advised that the four samba packages required update. Update for these proceeded and once again hung when installing the samba-common packages.

This has nothing to do with dpkg. It's either samba or debconf.
