Thanks for your bugreport.

Could you please attach the files in /var/log/dist-upgrade/ to this bugreport?

Thanks,

Hello Michael,

Yes i have tried to attach all files from that location. There are three
folders in there as well (20091101-1316, 20091101-1317 and
20091101-1322) but they contain some or all of the same files as the
attached loose files i.e. apt.log, main.log and term log

I cannot attach the file 'apt-term.log' i receive an error message when
i try and also i cannot open it so i cannot copy the contents here either.

It might be me, i'm quite a newbie to Linux Ubuntu, but it seems to be
working correctly. I was confused when i first rebooted after the
distro-upgrade and was presented with a different login screen that
appeared to look incomplete.

I have booted tonight and it seems to be ok, i checked system settings
and it appears i have Ubuntu 9.10 listed there too.

Michael, if you have the time is there a site i can learn more about how
Linux actually works? I am quite used to Windows and registries etc, but
i'm puzzled with Linux. I guess unless you happened to be around in the
days of Unix systems of which i wasn't, its quite daunting, but i do
like the freedom of using an OS that sort of allows me to do what i want
without being tied to Microsoft.

thanks

Dave Parker

Thanks for the log files.

Unfortunately I don't know a good site to learn about ubuntu from ground up, I can only suggest specialized sites. A google search or a good unix book from the library will probably help to get a better understanding of the system. Its somewhat complex but worth learning and exploring :)

Here is the actual error:

2009-11-01 16:05:33,567 ERROR got an error from dpkg for pkg: 'ddclient': 'subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 30

Setting up ddclient (3.8.0-4ubuntu1) ...^M
dpkg: error processing ddclient (--configure):^M
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 30^M

Your system should be mostly fine, its just a dynamic dns package that failed.

affects: update-manager (Ubuntu) → ddclient (Ubuntu)
Changed in ddclient (Ubuntu):
status: Incomplete → Confirmed

Did see something about a broken config during the upgrade? It seems like it "warns" and fails (where it should warn, move the broken file aside and continue).

Hello Michael,

Thanks for reviewing the bug report. I do seem to get a few crashes
especially with Dolphin running. Is there a way to roll-back to the
previous version of Ubuntu and then reload Ubuntu 9.10?

Also i remember that i tried to Upgrade to Kubuntu 9.10 and not Ubuntu
9.10, i don't know if this makes a difference to the installation, but i
do notice now (and in the error report) that Ubuntu 9.10 is installed

thanks for your help and advice

The logs do not contain enough information, and this is a really ancient bug report with no recent activity, so I am closing as invalid.
