Bug Description

I am trying to use ddclient to update my IP address on the freedns server. I have version 3.8.0 installed on precise and have examined the Perl code. the freedns protocol is not supported. However, when I examine the 3.8.0 code for ddclient on sourceforge it contains support for the freedns protocol and has had that support for three years. Why did Ubuntu remove the freedns protocol support?

I'm not sure if ubuntu removed the protocol. There are forum entries on this topic for all kind of distros (and dates).

There is a PPA for getting ddclient 3.8.1
http://www.ubuntuupdates.org/package/nathan-renniewaldock_ppa/precise/main/base/ddclient

have not tested it since it babbled something about python version (PHP5 Note: Some PHP extensions in the Ubuntu repo will not work with 5.4.) and I got scared (since i already had trouble getting rid of PPAs)
