dbus fails to install session.conf and system.conf

Bug Description

Binary package hint: dbus

While attempting to work out why I still have bug #25931 on latest Gutsy I tried doing a full reinstall of dbus:

$ sudo dpkg --remove --force-depends dbus
dpkg: dbus: dependency problems, but removing anyway as you request:
 avahi-daemon depends on dbus (>= 0.60).
 bluez-utils depends on dbus.
 evolution depends on dbus; however:
  Package dbus is to be removed.
 network-manager depends on dbus (>= 0.60).
 libgnomevfs2-0 depends on dbus (>= 0.90).
 dhcdbd depends on dbus (>= 0.60).
 hal depends on dbus (>= 0.60-1).
 totem-mozilla depends on dbus (>= 0.61); however:
  Package dbus is to be removed.
 rhythmbox depends on dbus; however:
  Package dbus is to be removed.

Removing dbus ...
 * Stopping DHCP D-Bus daemon dhcdbd [ OK ]
 * Stopping Avahi mDNS/DNS-SD Daemon avahi-daemon [ OK ]

 * Stopping system message bus dbus [ OK ]

$ sudo rm /etc/dbus-1

sudo dpkg --install dbus_1.1.1-3ubuntu1_i386.deb
Selecting previously deselected package dbus.

Unpacking dbus (from dbus_1.1.1-3ubuntu1_i386.deb) ...

I was only able to successfully start dbus after copying a backup of session.conf and system.conf to /etc/dbus-1.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Can you try with latest Ubuntu release?
