On my system it also segfaults on creating folders (with nautilus).

Manually compiling curlftpfs 0.9.1 with libcurl/7.17.0 fixed the problem.

But i still have other problems with curlftpfs - When a folder on a remote ftp server contains files with no read permissions, curlftpfs hangs:

Backporting libcurl from Hardy should fix this bug.

I've built libcurl-7.17.1 with prevu, installed and programs that use libcurl work fine, unfortunately I couldn't test if the issue with files without read permission is resolved cause I haven't an ftp server...

Backports are not for fixing bugs like this -- they should be fixed via a Stable Release Update so that everyone can benefit from the fix.

The next task would be to find exactly what in CVS was done to fix this and isolate that patch.

Thank you for your comment John,

I've attached debdiff with patch that fixes this bug.

This bug is fixed in Hardy, correct?

Regarding the debdiff, thanks for the patch. Just a few pointers: (1) The target should be gutsy-proposed, not gutsy (2) Version number should be 7.16.4-2ubuntu1.1

Please read https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates for how to edit the description of the bug.

After these are done, I'd be happy to approve this SRU and we can move forward.

How can I installl the fixed version of curl? This bug makes curlftpfs unusable, and I would like to have a working version as soon as possible.

I suggest you to use prevu to automatically backport from hardy.
I did it go get a quick fix for a job I needed to get done ASAP.
Surely the best way, more practical than compiling from source.

Using prevu to install curlftpfs from Hardy did not solve my problem, and it says that it can't install libcurl. Is there a different package I need to install?
Why not just release a patched package, using the patch that was kindly provided a month ago? Forcing users to install a hack to get a usable package is very distasteful to me.
And no, I will not upgrade to Hardy just for one package. I run a server so I can not run beta software.

@John Dong: Can you please check and accept the debdiff ?

@Walter Huf : More generally I think we shouldn't rely on backport to fix a bug on a stable release. Backports are meant just for new functionalities. Bugs should be fixed on every concerned supported release. So you're totally right. This is even more critical as curl is in main so is mean to be officially supported bu Ubuntu . I think you should open a bug on Ubuntu about this general matter. I'll second it.

@Olexander: thank you for your fix :-)

Just been bitten by the same bug, and it does indeed render curlftpfs unusable for me. I agree, a fix needs to be released for Gutsy since it's still the supported release.

I just followed the instructions at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuPackagingGuide/BuildFromDebdiff with the .debdiff file above and it doesn't seem to fix the problem for me.

Hm... Let me try to fix it again.
I'm using Hardy now, but I'll create Gutsy chroot to fix this issue.
