Do you have no output at all to the printer?
Seems related to bug #34971. Can you try if using a command line as suggested in this bug works.

I forgot to mention that the printer is a remote samba share.

My local printer (Minolta PagePro 1350W) is also broken, as reported in #30282. The errors in these 2 cases are different.

A 3rd printer (at my office) also fails to work, as reported in bug 40991.

So at the momeny CUPS is totally broken for me.

sudo mkdir /dev/usb
cd /dev/usb
sudo ln -s /dev/usblp0

this will create a symlink in /dev/usb.
My device printer is usblp0, you put yours in there.

Now, you can go to Administration -> Printers in gnome and you see that it is detected now :) That worked for me.
