Is there a quick workaround? Can I hold back the cups packages so that I can continue the upgrade?

i thought i'd be clever and work around the problem by removing the package before doing the upgrade. WRONG! Don't do 'apt-get remove libcupsys2'!!!!! It will remove your whole KDE installation plus many other apps (emacs, openoffice, and firefox, in my case).

The latest package cupsys_1.3.2-1ubuntu5_i386 solved the issue. I consider this bug solved as far as I'm concerned.

Thanks for the quick work on this.
