Bug Description

Binary package hint: cups

Epson printer S21 used to work just fine on Karmic, but ended working on Lucid (either in beta2, final, and even after a fresh install). The printer gets properly detected, but doesn't print. All the print jobs get added then suddenly deleted right before the S21 is supposed to print them.
i'm attaching the results of lspci -vvnn and dmesg.
hope they can be useful.

Same Problem with Epson S21 and lucid. The printer gets detected and also Prints the Testpage, but its not Possible to
Print from a Programm.

gravity (gravity71) wrote :

@Fume: oh, well, you can consider yourself lucky: mine doesn't even print the test page! :)

@ everyone else: if you need the output of any other command, in order to fix this bug, just ask and i'll post it here.

I have just took the packages "libgutenprint2_5.2.4-0ubuntu2" and "cups-driver-gutenprint_5.2.4-0ubuntu2" from http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/g/gutenprint/ and installed them after having removed the 5.2.5 counterparts. The printer works as before.

Fume (fume) wrote :

@Jeff: Thanks for ths workaround. The 5.2.4 works for me also. Now i can Print and wait until this
Bug is fixed.

gravity, thanks for your bug report but we need more information.

Please run the following command on a terminal to attach some useful information related to your printing setup to this bug report:
apport-collect -p cups 577952

Please also provide your cups error_log after trying to print something as described here:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingPrintingProblems#CUPS%20error_log

Does downgrading the gutenprint packages as mentioned by Jeff help?

Changed in cups (Ubuntu):

@ Pascal De Vuyst: thank you for your kind attention.

i'm attaching the CUPS error_log, as requested.

gravity (gravity71) wrote :

here's a screenshot of the page i was trying to print, just in case. (i'm not sure if that is what you needed).

thanks.

gravity (gravity71) wrote :

Oh, and yes, the workaround proposed by Jeff works fine (thank you very much!).
After changing that packages i've just had to delete the printer and reinstall it, choosing the driver for the Epson S20.

i will make sure i don't install unwanted updates (the packages suggested by Jeff), for now , and i'll wait for a fix to this bug.

thank you Pascal, Jeff and everyone for your help.
