Bug Description

Binary package hint: gedit

Using Ubuntu 9.10

Printing via all programs such as OpenOffice, Evolution, pdf files via document viewer, and text files via gedit have been correct since installation of 9.10 and prior installation of 8.04.

Recently text files from gedit have failed to print but Print Queue shows the text file with status 'Completed'

Any suggestions as to cause of gedit print failure?

There are two problems:

1. The PDF generated by gedit (or perhaps gedit's PDF passed through the pdftopdf filter of CUPS) is broken, so that foomatic-rip cannot determine the number of pages via Ghostscript).

2. foomatic-rip does neither error out nor render anyway if it is not able to determine the number of pages of the document. Adding foomatic-filters task.

I am not able to reproduce the problem. Can you attach the text files here with which the problem occurs for you? Can you also print into a file and save it in PDF format and then attch this file? Thanks.

Thanks Till for your info.

Fault seems to happen with ANY text file to be printed on gedit.

I'll send you sample of files and PDF format file when time permits.

Thanks Derek

All text files will not print from gedit. I have attached just one of many.

Print to file of either .pdf, .ps or .svg do not produce these files.

Do I need to do an uninstall/reinstall of gedit to cure problem?

With a slow dial up connection it is not possible to keep 9.10 up to date but I'm sure this is not the problem.

Still no print from "gedit" when logged in as USER but "gedit" prints correctly when logged in as ROOT.

Is this a clue?

As a single user maybe root is the way to solve problem but how do I transer all USER setting - EVOLUTION back up is OK but how can FIREFOX bookmarks be transferred?

Fixed problem of foomatic-rip not erroring out upstream in the BZR repository, rev 218 in the 4.0.x branch.

With a slow dial up line live CD not possible.

Looks like I shall have to use root when I want a print from gedit.
