Bug Description

Binary package hint: cups

I'm having some really big problems printing to my ML-1640 since upgrading to ubuntu 10.04 Beta. It seems to print really offset and exceeds the limits of the printer/paper. The print then becomes garbled.

And here is the file that created the print out.

Can you provide an error_log as described in the section "CUPS error_log" of https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingPrintingProblems? Thanks.

Here you go. I printed the same document just before I posted the error file here.

According to the cups error log you are using A5 page size while the input document is Letter.

Still a problem after setting Letter paper size?

Changed in cups (Ubuntu):
status: New → Incomplete

Actually, for some reason the default for the printer was A5. My
applications were all set to Letter size. Is A5 the default for
printers now?

Thanks for the tip, greatly appreciated.

This is either a bug or a major PITA. I am using OO.o Writer and I've
created documents on different sizes of paper. On is a 8 1/2 x 11 and
the other is an Avery label sheet.

I set the paper settings in Writer, but then I have to set the Cups
printer driver as well, for each different paper size. I have to do it
manually in order to get it to work.

Something is not right here, before 10.04 upgrade this all worked
perfectly.

Is /etc/papersize set to letter on your system?

You can run the following command to change it:
sudo dpkg-reconfigure libpaper1

Do I have to do that each time I change the paper size? If I have 3
different papersizes, I would have to change them in OpenOffice first,
then in the printer driver (CUPS)?

The printer default is usually set to A4 or Letter, depending on country settings. Please set your printer default to Letter and see wherther printing works correctly then.
