USB printer only available to root

Bug Description

Binary package hint: software-center

I expect to be able to print via usb from my Gnome desktop logged in as 'john'.
However my printer does not show up.

When I open a terminal console, I do....

Check out the 'Xerox' entry which only shows up when logged in as root.

Finally.. I did a Vaniilla install and reproduced this problem instantly before the first patches arrived and after the Vanilla install was fully patched.

This does not affect software-center. Removing package assignment.

maybe user john is not in the "plugdev"-group?

Thank you for submitting this bug and reporting a problem with cups. You made this bug report some time ago and Ubuntu and cups have been updated since then.

Could you confirm that this is no longer a problem and that we can close the ticket?
If it is still a problem, are you still interested in finding a solution to this bug?
If you are, could you let us know and, in the current version, could you run the following (only once):
apport-collect 509702
and upload the updated logs and and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue.
