Bug Description

With Ubuntu 7.10, 8.04 and 8.10, printing has never been a problem with a HP LaserJet 3380.

With Ubuntu 9.04, printing started to take much longer than before (up to approx. 10 seconds from clicking "print" until the printer started printing a simple text page).

Now with Ubuntu 9.10, it does not print any more at all. Printer says "Dokument wird gedruckt" but nothing happens.

This relates to newly installed systems (no distribution upgrades) with all available updates applied.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have classified this bug as a bug in cups.

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the appropriate application's "Help -> Report a Problem" menu or using 'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command, as it will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 486460

This will help us to find and resolve the problem. Bear in mind that you may need to install the python-launchpadlib package from the universe repository. Additionally, when prompted to give apport-collect permissions for Launchpad you will need to give it at least the ability to "Change Non-Private" data as it will be adding information to your bug report. Thanks in advance!

Can I see what information will be sent to Launchpad before approving this? Unfortunately, wiki.ubuntuusers.de has no article on apport-collect.

Tried it out again. At first I printed a document from OpenOffice.org. This worked ok. I then tried to print a document from Document Viewer 2.28.1. The printer's display said "Dokument wird gedruckt", but even after more than 10 hours the printer produced no printout.

To Brian Murray: I tried "apport-collect 486460" but this did not work (I clicked "Bericht senden", but nothing happened). The terminal window says:
