Bug Description

Binary package hint: evince

Since upgrading to 9.10, some PDF files will not print from Evince, though they printed just fine in 9.04. The same files will print just fine from xpdf (package: xpdf-reader) The printer I'm using is a Lexmark X652de. A member of my local team tested this file on an HP 7410, and it printed successfully from Evince and other programs.

Below is an attachment of the test file, the PPD for my printer and the logs from the printer troubleshoot wizard. Note that though the test file is under copyright, I have obtained permission from the rights holder to reproduce it in this bug report.

I'm having the exact same problem. My Ubuntu specs are the same as the first poster. My output printer is an HP Laserjet 2300. I am unable to print the test-print.pdf. For my own part I'm also unable to print invoices from FontShop.

I have the same issue on my working station (Ubuntu 9.10 amd64).
When i'm trying to print some pdf files it doesn't work. The printer is : HP Laserjet 4000.

I have tested to print the same pdf with my laptop (Ubuntu 9.04 amd64) and it works.

I am unable to print any PDF files from Evince to a Lexmark E260D connected to the network via a small hardware print server, with AppSocket/JetDirect protocol.

It worked fine in 8.10 and 9.04 but not after I built the machine to 9.10. I am using the Lexmark_E260d.ppd driver file.

The job goes to the print queue, the printer shows an alert light for a second, then nothing else happens.
I can print the same files perfectly OK using ePDFViewer.

I am also unable to print some PDF files from Evince to two HP LaserJet 4500 printers and one ColorJet 3700, which are all through AppSocket/HP JetDirect.

I tried printing a test PDF to those HP printers, and it did not print, but when I printed to an Epson computer (connected through USB), the document printed successfully.

I also tried printing the test PDF on a separate, different computer (also Ubuntu 9.10) to the HP printers, and the same printing error occurs.

Printing to the HP printers worked with xpdf and Okular, though, and worked perfectly fine on 9.04.

Is anyone else having issues with printing from Evince to printers that are using the AppSocket/JetDirect protocol?

I use Ubuntu 9.10 and a HP LaserJet 2200dtn, connected via USB locally. Evince does not print any PDF. I see the LED blinking, then stopping to blink, but no paper comes out. In /var/spool/cups I see, that the print spooler file has been created. Printing out of xpdf and other applications works fine.

Can everyone please try updating to the recently released cairo 1.8.8-2ubuntu1.1 package and see if it fixes your PDF printing issue.

My libcairo2 file is now 1.8.8-2ubuntu1.1

I just tried printing a couple of PDF files from Evince, and they printed OK.

Adrian Johnson's patch (see LP 419143) has therefore worked for me.

cheers
