Bug Description

Binary package hint: cups

Karmic alpha 5 (as of Sep 14)
click on system->administration->printers->new printer
scan for a cups printer on an ubuntu jaunty server and cannot find it
tried several ways, e.g. spec the ipp printer, etc.
finally gave up and just cut and pasted my older jaunty /etc/cups/printers.conf stanza
for the network-remote jaunty server's cups printer into my new desktop's karmic's
/etc/cups/printers.conf file
restarted cups via /etc/init.d/cups restart and works fine

cups:
  Installed: 1.4.0-5
  Candidate: 1.4.0-5
  Version table:
 *** 1.4.0-5 0

Hi

I've got a very similar problem in Karmic Beta.
I share two printers via cups, but although I can find them in the network I can't connect to them (tried from a jaunty-client). To add them on the client I choose "settings" in the printer-window and check the box "show printers shared by other systems", but I still can't print and if I verify the connection in the ipp-part of the add printer-assistant the error message "Access denied" appears. Printing on the server itself works fine.
Please see the attached file about this access problem.

Don't hesitate to ask me if you need additional information.

Thanks a lot in advance!

Regards

Simon

minor off line fix ... if you have the printers.conf file from before
trying karmic, use that in the /etc/cups dir and you should have a
working system.
Doesn't fix the bug, but it might get your printer working.

Confirmed on Ubuntu 9.10 server (final) with cups 1.4.1-5ubuntu2. The hosts cannot find the shared printers, as described by the reporter.

The workaround proposed by Heitzso unfortunately doesn't work here.

However, I'm a bit suspicious if this is a general problem, because there are just a few reports on this so far. If printer sharing would be broken generally, I guess there would be far more people reporting this issue in the bugtracker and on the forums.

Can anybody confirm that the above scenario is working?
