Printer maintenance functions unsupported

Bug Description

Binary package hint: cups

I have an Epson Stylus Photo 1280, and none of the maintenance functions are available in the Properties for that printer:
- Print Self-Test Page button is greyed out
- Clean Print Heads button is greyed out
- Ink Levels are not reported

I am running Ubuntu Jaunty with all of the updates applied. The device URI is

Note that mtink will perform all of these operations, without sudo

Is the situation any different if you try the cups web interface? Try to access http://localhost:631/ on the computer where the printer is connected.

I'm seeing the same error message from the CUPS web interface in Natty, with an HP Deskjet F4280, so it's not just Epsons.
