Bug Description

Binary package hint: openoffice.org-writer

I just upgraded to Jaunty from Intrepid and found that OpenOffice Writer now prints documents off the top of the page. It appears that it is attempting to print in US Letter mode despite me setting the paper size to A4 in the print settings and page formatting dialogs. When I first looked in the dialog, it was set to Letter, which is also incorrect for my locale.

This is a regression since Intrepid, where I never had a problem printing from OpenOffice. Other apps seem to print fine. In fact, I managed to get N-Up printing to A4 from Firefox to work for the first time today.

I live in the UK so I installed Ubuntu with the enGB locale.

My printer is an Epson Stylus Photo R300. I have set it to print to A4 in the printers control panel applet as well. Its print margins are set to 0 in the printing applet but surely OO should take account of the printer margin when positioning a page?

I've attached a test file that on my results in a completely blank sheet being printed on my printer (because it prints entirely on the gutter). I'd expect a line about 2.5cm down the page (where it shows on the screen).

Scratch what I said above about other apps printing fine. I just tried to print a test page and this was also printed off the top of the page.

affects: openoffice.org (Ubuntu) → cups (Ubuntu)

Reassigned to cups since it appears to be a general printing problem rather than one app.

I am having the EXACT same problem as above -- I could have written it, including the updating from 8.10 to 9.04. My locale is France so A4 paper is obligatory but no matter how many times I set it, it doesn't seem to "stick" and the next time I'm there (to check why it printed badly) it's almost always reset itself to "US Letter" -- so I think this is the cause of the problem.

It's a big problem: please help.

I am having the same problem. When I selected Legal size it chops off text at the top about 1.5 inches. A4 size seems to print ok. This happens on openoffice and pdf document viewer. I've tested with hp laserjet (foo2zjs) 1020 and hp laserjet 2015 (hpijs).

This seems work fine with Ubuntu 8.10 so its a new bug introduced in 9.04.

Marking confirmed since it seems like many people are suffering the same problem. I tried to run apport-collect to collect cups diags but it crashed (bug 363056).

This problem still reproduces with 1.3.9-17.

Changed in cups (Ubuntu):
status: New → Confirmed

I had exactly the same problem on a HP Laserjet 1012. The source seems to be in pstopdf, since I could fix it according to the description on http://<email address hidden>/msg620922.html

The same problem was also reported as bug 357732. Please follow the instructions there, especially replacing your pstopdf filter. Report there whether this solves your problem.
