Bug Description

After I upgraded from Ubuntu 8.04 to 8.10, the cups server was no longer running, and it was not possible to enable the service using system: admin : services in the Gnome GUI, because cups wasn't listed. The following steps were necessary to get printing to work again:

apt-get remove cups
apt-get clean cups
rm /etc/init.d/cups
apt-get install cups

This is apparently because /etc/init.d/cups is a broken symbolic link. Other users on ubuntuforms.org have reported the same problem. This is with cups version 1.3.9-2ubuntu3.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Could you please add the log files from '/var/log/dist-upgrade/' from the upgrade from 8.04 to 8.10 to this bug report as separate attachments? Thanks in advance.

The bug that cups wasn't listed in services-admin has been fixed in jaunty, see bug #283327.

Sorry, I no longer have my files in /var/log/dist-upgrade/ from the upgrade to 8.10, because since then I've upgraded again, to 9.04.
