Bug Description

Binary package hint: cupsys

Hi,

printing silently fails since 1.3.7-5 to a PagePro 1300w. error-log doesn't show anything suspicious (apart from "Resume-Printer: Unauthorized", same for "Pause-Printer", but these entries also showed up when printing still worked).

the only thing with any hint so far I could find where from dmesg:
[ 1523.980561] audit(1211403041.866:8): type=1503 operation="inode_permission" requested_mask="a::" denied_mask="a::" name="/dev/tty" pid=9153 profile="/usr/sbin/cupsd" namespace="default"
and
[ 1529.447088] audit(1211403052.811:9): type=1503 operation="inode_permission" requested_mask="::rw" denied_mask="::rw" name="/dev/tty" pid=9171 profile="/usr/sbin/cupsd" namespace="default"

what other info do you need?

Cheers,
    Stefan.

Stefan, are you still having this problem? Note that in Intrepid, the cupsys package has been renamed to cups, and the current version is 1.3.9-1. Are you still seeing messages in dmesg? Those are apparmor rejections; to verify one way or the other whether apparmor is interfering, you can convert the profile for cups to a non-enforcing logging mode by doing "sudo /usr/sbin/aa-complain /usr/sbin/cupsd" (use /usr/sbin/aa-enforce in the same way to turn enforcement back on).

FInally, if you are still having problems, can you attach the output of the printingbuginfo script as described at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PrintingBugInfoScript? It may also be helpful to enable the "Save debugging information for troubleshooting" in the Server -> Settings dialog in the System -> Administration -> Printing tool, as that will report more debugging information in cups' error-log.

Thanks!

Hi,

as in my last comment: no apparmor doesn't intefere any longer.

Once I'm home I'll try another printout, and see if still half of it is missing.

Cheers,
    Stefan.

oh, I just saw bug #273912, and I think this might be a duplicate, as the problem occured when printing a PDF with images.
