Bug Description

Settings -> Printers automatically adds "EPSON_L3160_Series" device but it is unusable. I cannot remove it as it keeps getting automatically added. It is also completely unusable and its "Printing Options" shows blank. "Printing Details" shows Address: null, Driver: "EPSON EPSON L3160 Series".

When I search for printers it gets detected again, now as Name: "L3160", Address: "localhost" Driver: "EPSON L3160 Series, driverless". I guess these automatically detected drivers are fine because it is printing (although it also has some issues).

Before adding this second one the first one is shown in the list of printing applications, but keeps saying "Retrieving information" status. After the second one is added, the first one disappears from the list in the applications, although it is still present in the Settings->Printers.

1. Don't know if this printer gets automatically re-added, or it just disappeares from the Settings UI when it is not actually deleted. Because CUPS web ui, and the applications are not showing the one that keeps comming back in the Settings->Printers ui

2. If it keeps getting re-added why is it not automatically set up as when I go Add... and click on it

3. When I wait a bit more in the Add... search, I get 3 printers (check attachement). The one that comes up immediately (the first one) is the working one from description above. But the third one also works. I guess all 3 point to the same physical printer.

Why is this happening and can it be improved?

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1908334/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.

Now I don't think this CUPS-BRF-Printer is related as it is shown even if my printer is turned off.

I switched to the latest kernel now. After removing all printers, the one described in paragraph one of #1 keeps getting re-detected. (attachment 1)

Applications show two of them, where the first is "gathering information" and cannot print. (attachment2 in the following post)
