Bug Description

with ubuntu 19.10, my printer was working fine.
after upgrade to 20.04, cups cannot find the correct driver and install a generic text only driver.

now, to be able to print pictures and pdf's, I only have 2 solutions:
- boot windows 10 (through my grub multiboot)
- boot an ubuntu 19.10 iso file (through grub -> loop) --> ubuntu 19.10 iso (it still works fine)

the linux 64 driver is not available any more on canon site (only windows and mac)

please indicate driver location and installation instructions. thanks

dear Andrew,

I solved my problem by downloading
printer-drive-gutenprint_5.3.3-4_amd64.deb (debian package)

then installed with: sudo apt install
./printer-drive-gutenprint_5.3.3-4_amd64.deb

then the proper driver appears when you add the printer in settings, not
the useless generic text driver, which does not even work.

good luck.

mike

(first check your printer is supported at

Even easier...

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install printer-driver-gutenprint

Connect printer and switch on.

Worked for me with Canon ip4600 and 20.04 desktop.

dear team of launchpad

i finally managed to get my canon ip4600 working by installing manually
a gutenprint driver as a .deb package from their site.

i will stay with kubuntu 20.04 for the whole LTS duration. i am fully
satisfied with this release.

thank you for your efforts
