Bug Description

I have a printer EPSON LX-810L with a adapter CENTRONICS-TO-USB: http://www.vesalia.de/pic/usbcentronics.jpg

When I print, todo all becomes disordered , the lines are not syncronyzed, and the text is multiplied, for example, a line that say "Texto SIMPLE" is prints, and the printer prints: "Texto SIMPLETexto SIMPLE" with the lines distorted, the header goes crazy.

With Leafpad not only occurs, with LibreOffice in all the tools is the same, not prints with Draft or NQL, the letters are a disaster, and with distortion, without margins and the "wordart" (That in Open/LibreOffice is "Fontwork") is displayed like a lot of squares and lines distorted.

I tested ALL the generics drivers: IBM compatible Dot Matrix, Generic Text Only, IBM ProPrinter II, Epson 9-pin/24-pin dot matrix, etc.

I have no parallel port to test, therefore i have this cable centronics-to-USB, with WINDOW$, the printer prints good, with linux is a disaster,I do not want to print in WINDOW$, I have to print in linux like should be, I used the latest version of Lubuntu 12.04 with all the updates until the time, I can not print correctly, because all is printed untidy, even raising or lowering the "dots-per-inch" o dpi.

PD: the dip Switch of this printer have not any configuration to active the IBM-compatibility.

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.6 kernel[0] (Not a kernel in the daily directory) and install both the linux-image and linux-image-extra .deb packages.

Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. Please only remove that one tag and leave the other tags. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

Mauricio rojas, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. We noticed that some of the sentences in this bug report are not in English. If they were translated to English they would be more understandable to triagers. Could you please translate them?

Here is some pictures of the bad prints that this printer performs, all with differents Dot-per-inch

With Leafpad:

Phrase: "TEXTO de prueba", a single line of 3 words, and it is duplicated and are de-synchronizes the lines.

With AbiWord (many dpi):

The same that LeafPad, but with more black.

Fixed 75% of the bug

In Lubuntu 12.04, I changed the driver "EPSON 9-pin GENERIC" to "Generic ESC/P Dot Matrix Printer Foomatic/epson (recommended)" and now the printer is printing pretty fine, but the difference is with the letters, in Times new roman, size 12, it prints small, and the dots from the pines of the header, forms a line by each line of letters (like a progressive scan on a interlaced scan TV), for example: the "wordart" of libreoffice, is printed like an image integrated by lines and dashes, but it is pretty legible and readable, the fonts sans and arial is printed so good, the latest line is printing pretty cool.

It looks like I have not really tested ALL the drivers, jajaja, the bug is in the EPSON 9-pin driver, and in the following generics drivers:

IBM compatible Dot Matrix, Generic Text Only, IBM ProPrinter II, Epson 9-pin/24-pin dot matrix
