Bug Description
Binary package hint: cups-pdf
I have been trying to help someone who wants to export an A4 format OpenOffice.org Writer file to an A5 PDF file. (see https:/
Even when I used the PDF printer Properties to change the paper size to A5, the resulting PDF is still A4.
I am using cups-pdf in Ubuntu 8.10, printing from OOo 2.4.1. The Ubuntu package version is 2.4.8-1ubuntu1.

The author of cups-pdf (Volker Behr) has been in touch with me to say that his test show this to only be a problem with OOo. I agree with him. The Print > Properties dialog inappropriately offers a change of paper size. Consider this:-
Programs like GIMP and the Document Viewer (Evince) deal with images, so can print to A5 PDF 'paper' by shrinking the image to fit the paper size. Text editors like gedit can format the output to an A5 PDF 'paper' size because there is no paper size defined for a plain text document. However, OOo documents have a defined paper size so it is wrong to offer a change of paper size on printing where no physical paper size is involved. Even when physical paper size is different, printing from OOo is according to the defined paper size.
So this 'bug' really relates to OOo and the fact that it cannot, and does not, print to any other paper size that the one defined in the document.
I will mark it as Invalid.
