I had this problem with Karmic. Adding
capability dac_read_search,
To the app armor profile fixed it for me. I should note that my profile already had the following in it:
# unfortunate, but required for when $HOME is 700
capability dac_override,
I believe (but am not certain) that addition was the fix Martin Pitt references in comment #62, and possibly by Martin-Éric Racine in comment #71. However, my installation already had dac_override and was not working. Adding dac_read_search finally let it work. I should note that I've used the PDF printing capabilities in the past just fine and don't think I've done a version upgrade in a while.
