Bug Description

Did buy a Brother MFC8510 printer that worked out-of-the box (after changing the protocol the printer is accessed with at http://localhost:681, that is, since dnssd seems not to fully work for me, see the warning) but stopped working about 2 months ago. At the same time /var/log/cups/error_log started to fill with the following warning:

E [13/Jul/2013:14:28:13 +0200] [cups-deviced] PID 2778 (dnssd) stopped with status 1!
E [13/Jul/2013:14:28:40 +0200] [cups-driverd] Bad driver information file "/usr/share/cups/drv/cupsfilters.drv"!

moving the file away stopped the warnings and returned my printer to a working order again.

Will attach the file to this bug report: Didn't find it in apt-cache so I assume it might be a remains from an old version of an package.

cups-filters 1.0.35 has a fix for the cupsfilters.drv problem. Strange for me is that this problem prevents your printer from printing.

Please follow the instructions of the sections "Capturing print job data" and "CUPS error_log" on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingPrintingProblems for further investigation.

Cannot add the local shared printer to another system. The remote system doesn't "see" the network printer. Error log on the print server shows that cups process dnssd had a problem.

so I tried all the drivers an one worked then I updated kernels and it died again.
$ uname -a
Linux gigabox 3.8.0-34-generic #49-Ubuntu SMP Tue Nov 12 18:00:10 UTC 2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I did find the error in the cups error log again
E [01/Jan/2014:10:17:10 -0800] [cups-driverd] Bad driver information file "/usr/share/cups/drv/cupsfilters.drv"!
W [01/Jan/2014:10:17:41 -0800] CreateProfile failed: org.freedesktop.ColorManager.AlreadyExists:profile id 'Brother_HL-2140-Gray..' already exists

W [01/Jan/2014:10:22:05 -0800] CreateProfile failed: org.freedesktop.ColorManager.AlreadyExists:profile id 'Brother_HL-2140_series-Gray..' already exists
so i removed the file
/usr/share/cups/drv/cupsfilters.drv

the error went away but the printer still wont print. If there is any further info I can provide please message or post here I'll check regularly.
