Bug Description

After installing cpufrequtils I noticed some error message. Does error message also occurs in /var/log/boot.log:
FATAL: Error inserting p4_clockmod (/lib/modules/3.0.0-16-generic/kernel/drivers/cpufreq/p4-clockmod.ko): No such device
 * Stopping Failsafe Boot Delay
FATAL: Error inserting pcc_cpufreq (/lib/modules/3.0.0-16-generic/kernel/drivers/cpufreq/pcc-cpufreq.ko): No such device
 * Stopping anac(h)ronistic cron
FATAL: Error inserting e_powersaver (/lib/modules/3.0.0-16-generic/kernel/drivers/cpufreq/e_powersaver.ko): No such device
 * Starting CPU interrupts balancing daemon

I noticed after installing cpufrequtils it also effected the bootspeed/time when I restarted the laptop. In a bad way.

Ok, this is very likely due to the governor being changed away from performance in early boot. The kernel default to high performance as this significantly improves boot time and then switches down to ondemand when boot is complete. Adding the cpufreqd most likely switches to the userspace governer early and defeats this.

It should also be noted that testing using all of the default governers and the cpufreqd shows that it is a sub optimal choice in the majority of cases, see the discussion below:

    http://zinc.canonical.com/~cking/power-benchmarking/cpu-governor/results.txt

I am going to reassign this over to cpufreqd for analysis as degredation must be introduced by its use.
