Bug Description

[Impact]

The coturn package got removed during the jammy development cycle as it broke with the migration of libssl3 (see https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/coturn/+publishinghistory and https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=995659)

With the recent sync from debian version 4.5.2-3.1 in kinetic fixed the FBTS which allows a backport of the coturn package.

coturn is a widely used TURN server implementation which is used by many open source projects (e.g. jitsi) and commercial products (e.g. Anbox Cloud).

[Test Plan]

1. Install coturn and verify default configuration

$ apt install -y coturn
# systemd unit needs to be up and running
$ systemctl is-active coturn

2. Run turnutils_stunclient on a second system and verify result to ensure simple STUN request works

$ apt install -y coturn
$ turnutils_stunclient <first system IP address>

[Where problems could occur]

Risk is low as the same version has shipped in impish and hirsuite before and was working well. New package version is a direct import from already released package in Debian.

Hello Simon, or anyone else affected,

Accepted coturn into jammy-proposed. The package will build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/coturn/4.5.2-3.1~ubuntu22.04.1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug, mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-jammy to verification-done-jammy. If it does not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-failed-jammy. In either case, without details of your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s) fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in -proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

Hello

I am the original reporter of the linked bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/coturn/+bug/1967018
I can confirm that the affected package for me (Jitsi-meet) is working with Coturn in proposed.
Thanks (again) to Simon Fels.
Also to S. Graber (Jitsi-meet has been tested in a LXD container of course) and Lukasz Zemcsak.

Can someone confirm, on paper, that the -proposed version of the package was used for testing (and not the one in the PPA)?

Yes, confirmed here by testing within a Jammy LXD container, enabling proposed and installing the correct package from proposed, not the PPA.

Test plan passes.

The verification of the Stable Release Update for coturn has completed successfully and the package is now being released to -updates. Subsequently, the Ubuntu Stable Release Updates Team is being unsubscribed and will not receive messages about this bug report. In the event that you encounter a regression using the package from -updates please report a new bug using ubuntu-bug and tag the bug report regression-update so we can easily find any regressions.
