Ctrl-C command copies the FILE instead of the selected text...

Bug Description

Select text during renaming a file with F2 command, then press Ctrl-C on the selected text. This command copies the FILE instead of the selected text. I am not sure if this is a bug or a design specification. On other OS's, usually this Ctrl-C action should copy the selected text.

I guess this is in the nautilus package. Correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks for your bug. That works fine for me. Pressing F2, then Ctrl-C, then Ctrl-V to a text entry copy the text. What version of Ubuntu do you use? What nautilus mode?

I am sorry, I didn't describe my concern correctly last time. I am using Breezy; however, this problem occurs to me when I was using Hoary too.

The problem occurs with the following steps (usually when copying selected text from one file to another file rename):

1. Select one file and press F2 for rename
2. Ctrl-C to copy the selection
3. Select another file and press F2 again
4. Ctrl-V trying to paste the text
5. The rename process exits and a copied file with "...(another copy)" created.

The only problem is (5). It should copy the text to another rename process.

Thank you!

I can't reproduce the stated problem so I think I must be missing some steps. Here is what I do:

Steps to reproduce:
1. Press right mouse button on desktop and go to Create Document -> Empty file.
2. Type 1 then press return.
3. Press right mouse button on desktop and go to Create Document -> Empty file.
4. Type 2 then press return.
5. With file 2 still selected press F2.
6. Press Ctrl-C to copy the filename.
7. Click on file 1 and press F2.
8. Press Ctrl-V to paste the filename.
9. Press return to change the filename.

Expected results:
Error message because it is not possible to have two files with the same name in the same directory.

Actual result:
Error message because it is not possible to have two files with the same name in the same directory.

Perhaps more detailed steps and expected and actual results will help in the reproduction of the problem...

Seems like I am the only one having this problem. This might not be a bug in nautilus.

I tried 4 of my installation of Ubuntu and all of them have the same problem. So, I go ahead and downloaded Breezy Live and give it a try. After it booted up and I tried those commands, I found they are running correctly this time.

So, I think its something I installed/customized that is cause this problem. The only difference between my installation and your's might be that I use "Language Selector" and chose to use Chinese (Taiwan) as the default language. So, this bug might be related to only Chinese version?

What direction should I go to look for the exact source of this problem?

Thank you!

Do you us e the list or icon mode? The GNOME or Emacs key mode?

I use the icon mode and GNOME key mode.

I just removed SCIM input manager and removed Chinese (Taiwan) language packs using Language Selector; the problem is still the SAME. So, the problem is not from the particular lanaguage that I am using.

Any other package that might cause this problem? I might have to reinstall the whole thing again to find out which package is doing this. Then, got to report this bug to that package team.

Finally found the cause of the problem.

It is when I turn on "Highlight the pointer when you press ctrl" option in:
1. System -> Preference -> Mouse
2. Cusors Tab
3. Locate Pointer: "Highlight the pointer when you press ctrl"

I trace to this issue because after I press F2 and tried to do Ctrl-C, at the moment I press CONTROL key, the selected text changes color to black... So, at last I remember I did turn on this option.

Is this considered a bug?
