The following entry in /boot/grub/menu.lst resulted in a beautiful highres console with Debian Etch. With Ubuntu it makes console switching impossible because Ctrl+Alt+F1 etc. results in a messed up screen content.

## e.g. defoptions=vga=791 resume=/dev/hda5
# defoptions=vga=791 quiet splash
Adding vga=791 leads to the problem. Screenshot will follow. |
