e.g. on entering mount points or usernames - installer still using US layout.
+ after installation the system kept the US layout but you're able to change it manully.

Thanks. This upload should have fixed your bug:

console-setup (1.57ubuntu20) natty; urgency=low

  * Weaken test for whether /usr is mounted; testing for /usr/share is
    sufficient, and fixes operation in d-i.

I'm not sure it's effective on today's alternate install CDs, but could you try tomorrow's daily build?

I'm sorry to correct you but the issue hadn't been fixed in the currently distributed ISO's

Download alternate:
- choose german
- auto detect keyboard (german no deadacute)
- US layout kept in install
- US layout kept after install
