Suggested (Sub-)Localization Keyboard Layout wrong (fresh install)

Ubuntu 9.10 beta. (when installing a fresh version of Ubuntu)

When selecting the time zone and location (Switzerland) after selecting the language (German) Ubuntu still suggests German (DE-DE) Layout instead of Swiss German Layout (DE-CH).

Are you referring to Keyboard layout?
So in that case i think that there's no difference between a geman and a swiss-german keyboard.

You're incorrect, there are a number of differences. For example the key where a German keyboard has ö/Ö instead has ö/é on a Swiss German keymap.

Ops, sorry for the error.
I'm Italian and because Italian and Swiss-Italian layouts are egual I mistakenly thinked that for German-Swiss was the same.
Ok, I' ve reproduced the issue on Maverick
During the installation I chose German timezone, at the keyboard layout prompt it propose German and is possible, in the left panel, choose Schweiz obtaining the results that Colin Watson describe at #2.

Then in Maverick the problem is fixed.
Now I test in Lucid and Karmic.

I confirm the issue in Karmic and Lucid 10.04.1.
Not reproducible in Maverick.
Workaround.
click on "Wahlen Sie selbst" then choose Switzerland
