This affects especialy to password stuff. If for example your password use an accent, when you reboot the sistem you will not be able to login to your system because dead keys then will be functional and the password will be different.

Confirmed in a normal system. This is at least technically possible (more or less), but at present ckbcomp doesn't emit compose definitions.

Hmm, though http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=461956 says that dead keys don't work when using Unicode on the console. I'm not sure this is an intrinsic limitation - it might just be that ckbcomp isn't yet smart enough to work out which compose definitions to use.

I confirm the bug with following /etc/default/console-setup:

CHARMAP="UTF-8"
CODESET="Lat15"
FONTFACE="Terminus"
FONTSIZE="16"
XKBMODEL="pc105"
XKBLAYOUT="es"
XKBVARIANT=""
XKBOPTIONS=""

Interestingly dead keys work well on gutsy

A quick workaround, in /etc/rc.local add:

echo "compose as usual for \"iso-8859-1\""|loadkeys

and deadkeys work!

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Can you try with latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.

I tried it in xubuntu alternate CD (14 October iso) and dead keys are working again.
