conky - package missing dependency on MPD

conky started with the following terminal errors:

"Conky: MPD error: problems getting a response from "localhost" on port 6600 : Connection refused" in a continuous loop

The MPD (Music Player Daemon) needs to be installed with conky. There is no dependency of MPD listed in apt-manager.

I removed all references to MPD in the .conkyrc as supplied in the Hardy distro, but the errors persisted. Installation of MPD solved the problem. This points to a solution of adding an MPD dependency to the conky distro package for Hardy.

I think that not having the mpd daemon reduces the functionality of conky (?).

please discuss this with Kapil. We build with MPD support enabled, therefore it makes sense to have mpd as a Suggests.

Nice to see that you are also interested in conky. (Since I'm now
responsible for the bug fixing ^^)
I will contact Kapil about this but this is really just minor.

I would be happy to hear some input from you.
Especially the first bug report posted here by me is strange.
I don't have a .conkyrc in my home and /etc/conky/conky.conf doesn't
show anything about dexter.

It is my error to report .conkyrc in my home. The file was from a previous build and I did not delete it. There is no dexter.

I did not check the contents of the distro package because the problem of .conkyrc was confirmed by another user in the Hardy Development forum (URL above).

To test, I have uninstalled mpd and conky runs with no error (no .conkyrc in home). However, I have not customized conky to use mpd.

The conky documentation describes use of mpd parameters. A user will therefore expect mpd to be supported. Perhaps this is the better reason to have mpd installed from the start.

on top of comment #2, please discuss with Kapil and eventually add a small patch to change "use_spacer no" to "use_spacer none" in conky.conf (see bug 212913).
I have sent a patch upstream to fix bug 212292, if upstream accepts it (or propose a different one), please add it to our package and let Kapil be aware of it.
Its too late to fix these in Debian and then sync, so lets fix these on our own and then we will sync for Intrepid.
