Binary package hint: compizconfig-settings-manager

Selecting any options other than default in compiz settings cause the menu bar at the top of the screen for Unity to glitch and and break. Reboot is required to restore.

I can confirm this issue. Sometimes (couldn't find a pattern to reproduce it), changing options on some Compiz plugin (like the Shift Switcher) causes the display and the Unity top menu to glitch. The display usually gets fixed, but the menu remains corrupted.

Also, OP says a reboot is required, but juston logging out and logging in again fixes it (top menu is restored) for me.
