Bug Description

In System->Preferences->Keyboard Shortcuts, I have alt-f3 set to minimise window. When running compiz, this is ignored. If I switch back to metacity, it works. This is with Hardy Beta.

This could be a result of double-settings, Coul'd you please export your Profil in the ccsm-menu and attach it.
Please try also with a different key-binding.
Please re-try with latest hardy and compiz.

I can confirm this with Hardy Final. I switched "minimize window" to Alt+Z with Gnome shortcut settings and it only works for the current session. Then I also changed it to Alt+Z in the compiz setting with gconf-editor. Same here, after a reboot the shortcut doesn't work anymore.

This could be connected to automatic login as just switching the user using GDM the shortcut works.

Any hints or any information I should provide?

"Suddenly" it is working. Booting the machine for several days now and it always worked. Maybe some of the latest updates fixed it...

Hi,

I incidentally found a way to reproduce the bug: as mentioned I changed the keyboard shortcut for "minimize window" to Alt+Z which only worked until the next reboot. I made my changes using the Gnome shortcut settings and I am using compiz. I found out, that after a reboot the shortcut "minimize window" was mapped to the shortcut Alt+Y which makes some sense since Z and Y are changed on a German keyboard. After changing the shortcut for "minimize window" to Alt+Y I can now access this shortcut with Alt+Z every time, even after some reboots. So I found workaround for my problem and I assume that compiz is using a different keyboard layout than Gnome which causes the behavior.

Confirmed for Intrepid alpha 5:
I tried to map "Open new terminal" to Ctrl+Alt+T and, while Metacity recognizes this properly, there seem to be no way to make it work with compiz :(

Using Ubuntu Hardy with latest updates:
Trying to run a terminal using 0xf5 (special key on laptop) - working with metacity, doesn't work with compiz.

Currently using "Super L" special key as a workaround - working with both metacity & compiz.

I observed this in Jaunty Alpha 4. I'm running a Thinkpad x61t.

Interesting to note that it's not the keys, but the targets. Eg, opening a terminal, print screen, run-application dialog, etc. do not work no matter what the keyboard shortcut, but those same shortcut keys work with other targets (eg. expo, window move, etc).

Note the similarity to this bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/153678

update:
After switching to metacity and confirming that the shortcuts work there, I switched back to Compiz and found that a few (run-application dialog, print screen) now work. Run-terminal still does not work.

This bug appears to be fixed in later versions of compiz. If anyone here still has this issue, please reopen this report with pertinent information.

Thanks!
