Bug Description

Binary package hint: compiz

TEST CASE:
1. install jaunty with compiz
2. open "system/preferences/prefered applicatons" and go to system
3. set terminal emulator to something else than gnome-terminal
4. open "system/preferences/keyboard shortcuts"
5. scroll to terminal and set it to e.g. shift-f2
6. press shift f2 and verify that gnome-terminal opens

7. install compizconfig-backend-gconf from jaunty-proposed
8. restart the session
9. press shift-f2 and verify that this time the right terminal opens

If a user uses System->Preferences->Keyboard Shortcuts to configure a hotkey for launching a terminal, it will unconditionally launch GNOME Terminal, regardless of the setting in System->Preferences->Preferred Applications.

Confirmed.

This is being overriden by Compiz. As a workaround install compizconfig-settings-manager and set the terminal command in System>Preferences>CompizConfig Settings Manager>Gnome compatibility>Commands>Terminal command line.

Too late for freeze, got rejected. Will fix in Karmic.

Is this a regression from Intrepid? If so, we could do an SRU.

I uploaded it to jaunty-proposed, a pocket copy to karmic would be nice too.

Accepted into jaunty-proposed, the package will build now and be available in a few hours. Please test and give feedback here. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to enable and use -proposed. Thank you in advance!

I've tested the source package after building locally with pbuild as the builders appear to have quite a backlog. The updated source package fixes the problem for me with no side affects. I'll retest again as soon as the official package builds complete.

I'm happy to report that 0.8.2-0ubuntu2 from jaunty-proposed successfully fixes this bug after following the test case.

Steve Beattie (sbeattie) wrote :

I have reproduced the problem with compizconfig-backend-gconf 0.8.2-0ubuntu1 from jaunty, and can confirm that the preferred terminal settings get honored with compizconfig-backend-gconf 0.8.2-0ubuntu2 from jaunty-proposed. Setting other compiz configuration options continued to work. Marking verification-done.
