Bug Description

I have a laptop (screen 1) with a vga monitor (screen 2) connected.

start everything up with both screens on
If the desktop monitor is powered off -
Unity changes the display mode so that both screens are supported in an extended virtual desktop.
So I power the monitor (screen 2) back on

Then I close the lid on my laptop, because it is no use to have it open if I have access to both desktops in a virtual way and the screens have been effectively mirrored.

Then it goes to the 'lock screen' I guess because I closed the laptop lid. (The setting is set to 'do nothing' when lid is closed)
The lock screen wallpaper doesn't cover the full area.. the physical screen dimensions are different than the virtual screen, but screen 2 is smaller, so the area that extends past the wallpaper is displayed.

unable to duplicate the problem..switched to a new laptop, and am using DVI instead of VGA cable. Seems every time I wake the laptop up, it only shows the one desktop and doesn't do the virtual size trick on me anymore. Much better.

This still happens in Raring, for me. When I lock the screen, only one blanks, and the other remains showing what was on it before locking. Using an input device (mouse jiggle, tapping shift key on keyboard, etc.) while locked works around this.

I originally filed this as bug 960073
