Thank you for your bug report, can you use those control or are they just a visual artifact?

does it happen every time you do that? is the bug going away if you move a dialog over the area of the background?

K. The time I reported this, they didn't, as far as I remember, which I feel is correct as the seek bar in the window and the one in these separate controls display different duration.
Today, two different things happened:
1 They do work with the video getting re-sized but without any borders or controls attached around it with only these controls remaining from the full screen and the seek bar displaying the correct duration.
2 The video re-sized with no controls at all. (Attached)

It does not happen every time.
It's kinda tricky. I don't know how it happened the first time, but now, I go full screen, Alt+Tab to Chrome (v 18.0.1025.168), and drag the title bar down...

It surely has something to do with Chrome. When I run VLC in full screen and Alt+Tab to a sized window of Chrome and choose maximize it does happen but in kinda background and VLC (still full screen) becomes the active window again...

'Is the bug going away if you move a dialog over the area of the background?' No.

thanks, reassigning to compiz since that seems rather a compiz, unity issue than a nautilus (that's the file manager) one

affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) → compiz (Ubuntu)

On ubuntu 12.04 it is actually very easy to repro.
Open the video in full screen mode, and move your mouse on the screen until the VLC controls shows up at the bottom of screen, and then double click on the fullscreen to switch VLC into window mode. As soon as VLC reaches window mode, the controls from the fullscreen remains (yes it is a visual artifact)

The workaround is that under full screen mode, do not move your mouse around (so that controls do not show) before switching to window mode.

I had this problem when using Unity 2D. I switched back to regular Unity and the issue no longer occurs.

Ahh..thank you for the reminder. yes, I almost forgot.
On top of the repro steps that I posted earlier, It is currently repro on unity 2d. I don't have such issue with the default unity 3d

I have this same problem and I'm using metacity, not compiz.

Every time I leave de fullscreen mode while the controller is visible it remains on the screen and it is not usable.
