Bug Description
When enabling the "Workspace Names" plugin in the compiz settings manager, compiz will crash repeatedly with no obvious recovery options for the end user.
The answer, in case this comes up in somebody's google search, is to <ctrl>+<alt>+F2 into a new session, and edit the list of plugins with
gconftool-2 --get /apps/compiz-
finding the name of the offending plugin (in this case 'workspacenames'), and setting a new value for that configuration key like so:
gconftool-2 --set --type=list --list-type=string /apps/compiz-
