Bug Description

When logging into an "Ubuntu" (compiz/unity) session, I get heavy flickering whenever new windows are created or when windows are moved on screen. I also get a dark band that gradually appears under the top panel and gradually obscures any content under it.

The attached video shows these symptoms.

This is all on a Thinkpad X60.

These symptoms are not present - everything seems to display properly - when logging into a "Ubuntu 2D" (metacity/unity) session.

This problem appeared after an aptitude full-upgrade on 2012-03-23 and has persisted until now. This machine has been running compiz/unity sessions without problems since Natty.
