Bug Description

The preview should automatically close on mouse out of that window's "area", but sometimes it does not. Playing a little with compiz window previews would definitely make this bug occur.

It might be related to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/864316 bug, but not sure it's the same. And if someone opens the code of compiz window previews maybe there will be a fix for wrong window preview (because of wrong calculation of mouse position).

not unity's fault, I believe that compiz plugin is not being maintained by its developers so the bug.

Not that I don't appreciate the response, but as long as it's a Ubuntu bug it should be fixed. It is not a singular case and it's only since Oneiric, in Natty it did not occur. These are the things people coming from Windows find very anoying and as far as I can, I do my best to try helping the developers.

Which package or whre should I assign it to? Thanks!

they should not play with ccsm really ;-)

i see a very low chance of this ever getting fixed as its an unsupported plugin on compiz's end

affects: unity (Ubuntu) → compiz (Ubuntu)

Maybe, but it's strange not to be able to have any role in the way your computer acts. I'm trying not to compare, but that is impossible and not productive as we should get the good things from anywhere; for instance in Windows I can set up what I have in Start Menu, what I don't have there, if it is to be a small list or something else, etc. Even the small phones OS allows the user to have either list or grid (icons) view of the menu.

I don't believe in a OS where people cannot do some basic things around. For instance one of the first things I do about Unity is to make icons smaller. On the default size there can only 5-6 icons fit there and that is the opposite of normal&functional desktop. How could one do that without ccsm or another tool?

The times where user should edit a config file for everything are gone for ages. we're living 2011 and soon 2012 :)

This bug has been a problem since Natty. It still shows up in Precise. If you enable window previews in Gnome Classic and hover your mouse over a window title, the preview will appear. But it will only disappear if you move your mouse horizontally on the taskbar. If you move your mouse vertically over the preview window and into the desktop area, the preview won't disappear.

When using Natty I had enabled a PPA to purposely downgrade Compiz to a version where this wasn't a problem. Very sad to see that it's still a problem a year later :(
