I can't confirm with ctrl-alt-arrow but what I can see is the dialog I click on being hidden and then displayed again in the desktop expose
example with 2 workspaces:
- open gedit on ws1
- open firefox on ws2 and open another gedit on top of it
- click on the unity launcher workspace icon
- single click on gedit in ws1, you can see the background image (i.e gedit got hidden) for a second then gedit comes back
- single click on gedit on ws2, you can see firefox displayed for a second and then gedit coming back
- if you click on something already focussed it doesn't happen
it seems it unfocus or hide the dialog you select before selecting it...

Sorry for not expanding on last comment -
That was a beta 2 updated using cube/rotate where the issue was also seen when using viewport switching. Returning to to default wall showed showed no issue there (Ctrl+Alt+arrows
Have since done a fresh install with daily of 09/27 , using all defaults (wall
The problem with the workspace switcher remains, am using a simpler test
Open nautilus on WS 1, use the Ws switcher to go to Ws 2 (empty desktop
Before Ws 2 loads nautilus flashes on screen
Again using the Ws switcher go back to Ws 1, the desktop image flashes before Ws 1 with nautilus appears

Am seeing this today on 2 machines after latest updates [nvidia current driver on desktop, ati on dell laptop].

As of unity-4.20 no longer see the described behavior when using the Workspace Switcher (expo
It does continue if using rotate/cube instead of wall, but only with viewport switching so that is a different bug
Would be inclined to mark this as fix released or invalid - the only caveat is that currently unity-4.20 requires killing & restarting nautilus to use, so can't say this 100% represents normal usage. ( bug 862743

no, it's not fixed in 4.20 using wall, it still happens there
Doug McMahon (mc3man) wrote : | #9 |
While on a 10/02 install could not get the flashing with wall, I just removed it & put in a 10/04 install updated .
It's clear as day now.
A quick ck. of cube/rotate shows they are still severely affected

I'm having the problem right now too. You rotate the cube and it displays the previous desktop in a flash.
Greg A (etulfetulf) wrote : | #15 |
The bug in this question (relating to the workspace switcher) is fixed with the version of compiz in natty-proposed.
I suggest that people having a similar problem with the desktop cube report a seperate bug.

I still have this problem with the latest Ubuntu precise, fully updated. Some windows flash briefly whenever I switch desktops using Desktop Wall. I'm using the proprietary nvidia drivers.
Serrano Pereira (serrano-pereira) wrote : | #18 |
Also seeing this on Ubuntu Precise. I'm in the same situation as Durand D'souza (fully updated, desktop wall, nvidia proprietary driver).

The solution for me was downgrade from compiz 0.9.5 to 0.9.4 and everything works okey. First, uninstall compiz (it keeps its configuration)
sudo apt-get remove compiz*
sudo apt-get autoremove
Delete every repository mention compiz in Software Sources
To be shure nothing remains
gksudo nautilus /etc/apt/
delete every line with the word "compiz" in it
sudo apt-get update
Add the Natty repositories to your apt sources:
deb http://
deb http://
sudo apt-get update
restart
Install the 0.9.4 version of compiz and ccsm, and their dependencies:
sudo apt-get install compiz=
compiz-
compiz-
compiz-
compiz-
compizconfig-
libcompizconfig
libdecoration0=
compizconfig-
python-
compiz-
I got some dependencies errors so I sudo apt-get install line by line, and at a dependencies error, installed the mentioned dependence line and try again.
Restart and voilá

That version has reached EOL since a while, so it will not receive update. If that issue still exist, report again using ubuntu-bug.

This has been made even worse with the upgrade ro compiz 1:0.9.6-0ubuntu1
Now the previous Ws is flashed when just switching Ws's with Ctrl+Alt+ arrow
