I remember fixing this issue at least a month ago...

I did a fresh install on my core i3 330M today and updated the system. I plugged in an external monitor (max res 1280x1024). I cannot reproduce the issue as reported here.
I am using a Ubuntu downloaded from the daily repository on the 14 of august...

Hi Jay,

Maybe somehow the changes didn't make it in time? all the reports for this and related bugs were generated with Oneiric Alpha 3.

Anyway, I just retested this with the Oneiric image from 20110823. Tests were done with Intel Corporation Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 12) graphics on a Toshiba Tecra A11.

Behavior is now improved and I can't reproduce the original problem. works mostly OK, I get a compiz crash but it respawns and dual monitors work fine.

Please let me know if I need to test something more specific.

Hello Daniel,

Could you test one of the affected systems again with Alpha3, please? Just to double check that it was not a random issue.

Also, could you please file another bug for the compiz crash, please?

Thanks!

Is this bug still active? I thought it was due to an installation error.

I reinstalled Oneiric Alpha3 on one Arrandale system (Toshiba Tecra A11) to try and reproduce the original problem. It does occur exactly as originally described, with the primary display showing a "dead area" on the top 1/3 of the screen, and the secondary display being black except for the top panel.

I'm currently installing from latest image (20110906) to try and reproduce the compiz crash and file about that, if needed.

OK, I installed from latest image (20110906) and I'm not getting any Compiz crashes anymore. No need to file a bug about that then, and I'll mark this Fix Released as external screen support is working OK on the latest images.
