window decorations dissapear when enabling desktop effects

Binary package hint: compiz
This is similar to bug #73544 but it happens on an Intel video card.
When I run enable Desktop Effects in the Control Center, window decorations disappear completely. Windows can be minimized/maximized from the dock, and desktop switching works. (But no effects seem to actually happen. The checkboxes on the Desktop Effects applet are disabled and unchecked.)
