unmaximize windows on upper screen edge (Fitts's Law)

Binary package hint: compiz

In compiz you can't unmaximize a window by double clicking the title bar (or Unity panel) at the very screen edge. For some strange reasons clicking the screen edge in the right corner even focuses the desktop instead of closing the window (if the controls are on the right side).
In other words Compiz breaks Fitts's Law. This is not related to #284158. Disabling all desktop related plugins in CCSM has no effect.

Steps to reproduce:
Use Gnome Classic (though this affects Unity as well as mentioned)
Make sure compiz is running
remove top gnome-panel
switch theme to clearlooks
maximize a window
now try unmaximizing or closing it

Expected results:
throwing the mouse to the screen edge and double clicking the title bar/clicking the corner above the close button unmaximizes/closes the window.

Actual results:
Nothing happens and/or nautilus desktop is focused

reproducible: always; behavior of window control icons depends on theme.

affects all versions of Ubuntu/Compiz (I tested 10.04 through 11.04)

I reproduce it on unity/compiz desktop. If I move the pointer a litter bit down it works. Also I noted that theme has no effect. Ambiance, Clear Looks and Radiance have the same effect.

@Braiam Peguero: the theme only has an effect if you use no top panel (the theme only affects the window button behavior). The titlebar double-clicking happens in every theme.

In 12.04 the top left corner closes the maximized app.
