matlab does not display

Binary package hint: desktop-effects

with desktop effects enabled matlab does not display...

the windows open but they are filled with gray space...

please note:
1) i have a nvidia card
2) to make compiz work i added this option to the "Screen" section of xorg.conf:
    Option "AddARGBGLXVisuals" "True"

I have the same problem in Gutsy: matlab r2007a toolbars aren't displayed if I use Desktop Effects (see screenshot).

I'm not sure this bug is a duplicate of https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/73544.
IMHO, this is related to the java/compiz bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/112266

I think Matlab embeds its own JRE and doesn't use the ubuntu-packaged one

The bug also appears with matlab r2007b.
